Džemal Bijedić University in Mostar has a long tradition in the education of engineers in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and the close connection with the economy ensures the relevance of studies and facilitates the career development of graduate engineers.


Faculty of Civil Engineering in Mostar

The Faculty of Civil Engineering of the "Džemal Bijedić" University in Mostar was founded in 1978 and started operating on September 1 of the same year. Until 1993, the Faculty was located in Ante Zunanića bb, in the premises it had to leave during the war. The teaching process took place with a small number of students in the demolished part of Mostar, in the museum "Džemal Bijedić", as well as in Jablanica and Konjic. Since 1996, together with other faculties of the University "Džemal Bijedić", the faculty premises are located in university sports facilities. -recreation center (USRC) "Midhat Hujdur Hujka" (former barracks North Camp) located in the northern part of the city, near the train and bus station. The Faculty of Civil Engineering in Mostar is a public institution that performs teaching, scientific research, professional, higher professional and counseling. ancient activity in the field of construction and geodesy. Within the Faculty, there is the Department for Design and Testing of Materials and Structures (ZPIMK), with a modernly equipped laboratory located in the new building of the Faculty. The institute is also a place where students perform laboratory exercises and participate in the process of testing construction materials. The Faculty of Civil Engineering is a member of the "Džemal Bijedić" University in Mostar, all in accordance with European standards on university autonomy and the Law on Higher Education. The Faculty of Civil Engineering of the "Džemal Bijedić" University in Mostar started its reformed studies in the 2008/09 school year. The estimated total length of studies is five years. The first part of the study, or undergraduate study, lasts three years and upon its completion the title of "Bachelor" of Civil Engineering is acquired. Successful completion of the undergraduate study is a condition for enrollment in the second part of the study, or graduate study, which lasts two years and upon completion of which the title of "Master" of Civil Engineering is obtained. A three-year doctoral study is introduced, which consists of one school year in which subject teaching would be organized and two years in which, with intensive research work, a doctoral dissertation should be completed and defended and thus the title of doctor of technical sciences in the appropriate field should be obtained. The condition for enrollment in doctoral studies is the successful completion of the first and second cycle of studies (Bachelor and Master). Curriculum flexibility allows these studies to reflect the rapid development of technology and to adapt to the needs of the economy. This is reflected, for example, in training and gaining experience in the use of modern computer applications with application in construction. The quality of these studies is recognized internationally and nationally. The compatibility of the curricula with those in EU countries enables the exchange of students with Western European Universities.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University "Džemal Bijedić" was founded in 1978 and in the same year it started working on September 1, with two departments: Structural - Construction and Hydraulic.

It was founded in 1977 and today, in addition to the Faculty of Civil Engineering, it also has the following faculties: Economics, Mechanical Engineering, Teaching, Information Technology, Law, Agromediterranean and Humanities, as well as studies in Tourism, Business Informatics, Health Care and Interior Design.

Number of students

Today, over 400 full-time students of the 1st and 2nd cycle, Bologna Process, study at the Faculty.

There are 18 teachers and 15 associates at the Faculty.


Department of Design and Testing of Materials and Structures (ZPIMK)

Since its establishment, the practical part of student teaching as well as scientific research has largely taken place in the Institute for Design and Testing of Materials and Structures, which has modern equipment for laboratory and field testing.

The main tasks of ZPIMK of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Mostar are:

  • development and improvement of scientific-research and highly professional work in the field of construction and geodesy,
  • practical training of younger scientists and researchers,
  • education and training of new teaching staff,
  • solving complex tasks in the field of construction for the needs of the economy and the wider community,
  • experimental work and experimental teaching,
  • cooperation with related institutions from the country and abroad.

International cooperation

The cooperation between the University Office for International Cooperation and the Faculty enables the exchange of students at the international level, student stays in foreign countries and the preparation of diploma theses at foreign faculties, as well as attending summer schools and foreign language courses, and participating in various scientific seminars and student competitions. . The Faculty of Civil Engineering of the University "Džemal Bijedić" in Mostar has developed international cooperation with the following reputable European universities and institutions:

Faculty location
